"Bach to the Future"

Once again my girls have been participating in the "Bach to the Future" music camp in Carmel. I have also been there everyday helping with the activities. Every year Carmel hosts the "Carmel Bach Festival" where musicians and singers come from all over the world to play and sing. It is a month long festival. A few years ago, the girls music teacher decided to start a program for children in cooperation with the festival. This year we have around 50 kids participating each week. Some of the highlights each day are when musicians from the festival come in and demonstrate their instrument and voices for the children. I have especially enjoyed the instrument demonstrations and enjoyed learning the history of them. There is also a craft each day and this year we had 4 special days where there was an extra special craft. One day each week a person came from "Glazes" and the children got to paint their own piece of ceramic. It was so much fun to see how they all turned out after they were fired in the kiln. There was also a day each week where a person from "The Chocolate Dipper" came and the children (and even the big children) got to decorate cookies and make chocolate molds with melted chocolate. It was a lot of fun and was very yummy!! The camp goes from 9-3:30 each day so as you can tell, there are plenty of activities going on all day long. Throughout the week, the children learn several "Bach" songs and perform them at a concert on Sunday. They also have classes where they get to play bells and chimes. It is a really great opportunity for my girls and we will miss not being able to attend next year.
