Swank Farms

Tuesday the girls had a field trip to Swank Farms. It was such a beautiful day and the hour drive to the farm was very enjoyable. I am always amazed every time I drive inland and see all the farm workers out in the fields. Being from Indiana, I am used to seeing crops being grown, but here everything is hand picked. When you drive past the fields, you see hundreds of workers out there picking whatever happens to be growing. If you didn't know this, we live in the "Salad Bowl" of the world. I love all the fresh fruits and veggies we have here. Anyway, back to the field trip. When we arrived, the children fed the goats and then we headed to the corn maze. I had a group of girls and we headed in first. Along the way, you have to find signs numbered 1-16 and read what is on the sign. We got to #3 and could not find #4 anywhere. By this time, the other groups had caught up to us and none of us could find #4. We finally decided to just go on and we found all the other signs. Once we were finished, it was time to sit down and listen to the story "Spookley the Square Pumpkin". The kids told the lady about the missing sign and she just figured we had missed it along the way. She told her husband, Mr. Swank, that we couldn't find it, so he decided to go in and check for himself. He came back saying he couldn't find it either. It looked as if someone had climbed a fence and stole the #4 sign during the night. The kids were glad to hear it was not their fault they couldn't find it. After the story, we fed the cow, fished for goats, played in a corn box and kiddy corral. We then took a ride on the cow train which was a blast. It is ten cow wagons pulled by a tractor through a corn maze. The guy driving the tractor was having fun going fast around the corners and trying to get us close to the corn. He was having as much fun as we were. The kids also enjoyed jumping on the haystack jump. We had lunch and then everyone got to pick out a pumpkin before leaving. The kids decided this was the best field trip ever.
